“We visited a grandmother who was very sick. Her daughter who was standing over her bedside crying when I arrived, so I went away for a few minutes. The nurses mentioned the 4 year old granddaughter was coming soon, so I went and visited others while waiting. When the little girl arrived, she went straight to my dog and our conversation exploded with all sorts of questions. After about 10 minutes I asked her if we should sit next to Grammy and tell her about the dog. She held Grammys hand while she continued patting my dog with the other as she described her to Grammy. As she was telling Grammy how soft the dog is, Grammy squeezes the little girls hand. She was ecstatic, yelling “Grammy squeezed my hand!” She was so happy! I told her that while my dog can’t talk, she still shows she’s happy that your patting her, just like how her Grammy squeezed her hand. This little girl was so darn cute I have not been able to get her out of my mind all day! I was so happy we could help make a sad situation just a tiny bit better.”
