Serena joined Caring Canines in
March 2006 and
is proud to add "Certified Therapy Dog" to her resume! She loves
to ham
it up during the introductions by showing off some of her many tricks.
Serena loves meeting new people and settling in close to them for pats
and hugs.
When she was 4 years old she was diagnosed
with a rare
malignant tumor on her right front leg. She needed radiation
therapy.
During the winter of 2005 she slipped on ice and broke that right front
leg. The radiation therapy had weakened the bone (an unfortunate
side effect). We attempted to repair the leg, but it never healed
and we were forced to amputate. One month later she competed and won
her
first agility trial as a three-legged dog! Serena is one of the
few
three-legged agility dogs in the country.
