year and one half. We brought Aloha home when she was 9 weeks old
in late June, 2005. Our Sheltie, Lanai, raised her for the first
few months. It was too cute...our Sheltie putting the
Goldendoodle puppy, Aloha, through her paces!
Back Then sadly, in late August of 2005, Lanai developed a pancreatic abscess and died within 36 hours. We were all devastated, especially Aloha. All of a sudden she was alone... and lonely for her mentor. With so much love for Lanai and Aloha, we filled in for Lanai. In early October 2005, we were in touch with the Goldendoodle breeder of Aloha. He told us that Aloha's sister was in need of a loving home. No questions asked we were on our way to bring Aloha's sister home. We named her Iolani for the Hawaiian princess. She was scared, so thin, and too many bug bites to describe when came home with Marty and me. We had a seven hour drive in pouring rain, with a terrified 7 month old ever-so-timid pup. We arrived home safely. In a flooded dark backyard we introduced the two sisters. It was sight to behold, and if we hadn't been there together; we would not have believed our eyes. They stood, stared, ran to each other: then, then, then, stood up on their hind legs and wrapped their front paws around each other. We stood speechless. That was that... sisters forever, and together forever. Iolani had not been well cared for, she was skin and bones, scared of men, and terrified of a leash. Each time Marty would come into the room. Iolani would quietly leave. A leash in sight, under the bed she would go. But, with Aloha at her side and tons of care, food and love, from all of us, Iolani began to stand taller and braver. Our Iolani is now a Caring Canine visiting dog, gentle, and proud. Thanks to our visits with loving patients in the elderly centers. Iolani has rapidly become confident, and secure. Her gentle and kind soul has embraced her new role as a Therapy Dog. Relaxed and happy she looks forward to her weekly visits. Aloha has now joined her sister Iolani and the Caring Canine team. Life could not be better! Iolani, Ahola, Lindy and Marty
