Chappy

Hi!  I'm Chappy! I'm a Bedlington Terrier. My ancestors were bred to dig into the tunnels of rabbits and badgers that were eating the vegetables and crops of farmers in England. I really like to dig and chase rodents, so my human pack never has to worry about the squirrels and chipmunks in the yard! I don't shed, which means I am REALLY SOFT. I need to go for a haircut every 6 weeks or so. My coat is medium length in this picture. Sometimes Bedlingtons have really poofy heads and legs. We come in two colors: Blue (like me) and Liver (brownish red). You can find out more about Bedlingtons and see some of the champions in my family at http://www.elante1.com.

I am named Chappy because for many years, my human dad didn't want to get a dog. My human mom and sisters finally convinced him to to get a dog while they were on the ferry to Chappaquiddick Island in Martha's Vineyard. Chappaquiddick is my official name, but my friends call me Chappy. My human Dad is such a dog fan now that we recently adopted a second dog named Mingo. He is a poodle/shih-tzu mix.

This is me and my human mom doing one of my favorite things - being pet and making people happy with Caring Canines! But I didn't always look like this........

When Bedlingtons are puppy's they are black. When we are around one year old, we start to change color. This is a picture of me when I was a puppy with my brothers and sisters. My Mom's nose is in the corner! Can you tell which one is me? My sister Polly lives with my human mom's sister in Chicago. Another one of my sisters is also a therapy dog - I guess it runs in the family!

I've lived in the Boston area since I was 3 months old. My human pack is so great. We love to go on long walks in the woods no matter how cold it is.  I like to wade into water -  as you can tell by my muddy paws - but I don't really like to swim. I ALWAYS come when I am called.

Oh! Hang on!  I think there's a squirrel over there!

I really like to play with other dogs, too. This is my next door neighbor, Hannah!
She is a
short-haired Collie and is really good at catching frisbies!
