The value of therapy dogs during times of crisis has been demonstrated time and again.  They offer more than just a warm furry body; many dogs instinctually understand when someone needs comfort and offer it unconditionally, without judgment or obligation.

Caring Canines' Critical Incident Response Team members are availalbe to offer emotional support and comfort to victims, family members and disaster workers in crisis situations.

  Handlers and dogs are accompanied by a team leader/facilitator.

  All members of the Critical Incident Response Team are experienced participants in Caring Canines' regular visitation program.

  The therapy dogs selected for the Critical Incident Response Team are exceptionally affectionate, calm and engaging.

  A supportive debriefing is conducted for handlers by the team leader after each period of service.

  All handlers are covered for liability through Caring Canines Visiting Therapy Dogs, Inc.'s general insurance policy.

After September 11th, the availability of therapy dogs proved invaluable to people being evacuated from the site, to those who lost loved ones, and to rescue workers who were at the site round the clock in the weeks after the attack (see articles below).
